Holden Colorado LTZ Crew Cab

2012 Holden Colorado LTZ Crew Cab

Holden officially launches the highly-anticipated new-generation Colorado today, just days ahead of the first Colorado deliveries to Australian customers.

New from the ground up, the 2012 Colorado range benefits from a powerful new range of Duramax turbo diesel engines, bold clean-sheet exterior and interior design, segment-leading 3.5 tonne towing capability, sure-footed driving dynamics and serious 4x4 credentials on certain models.

Holden engineers and designers contributed significantly to Colorado’s global development program, ensuring the new light commercial meets the specific needs of Australian customers.

The Colorado line-up offers customers a vast array of choices, from the DX Single Cab 4x2 to the range-topping LTZ 4x4 Crew Cab featuring sports bar, side steps and 17” alloy wheels standard.

Holden’s ultimate workhorse features a minimum one tonne payload regardless of powertrain and up to 3.5 tonne towing capacity on all 2.8 litre powered variants.

Holden Executive Director of Sales, Marketing and Aftersales, John Elsworth said the next-generation Colorado was the most refined and capable light truck ever produced by General Motors.

“The new Colorado raises the bar for diesel engine technology, load-carrying capability, features and value in the light commercial segment,” Elsworth said.

“The 2012 range blends the hardworking Colorado attributes loved by our customers with exceptional cabin refinement and SUV-like ride and handling.

“Holden’s contribution to the global program has ensured Colorado is tuned with Australian driving preferences in mind, and we’ve worked hard to locally develop a range of durable, accessories as tough as the Colorado itself.”

Mr Elsworth said Holden would take a fresh approach to the launch of Colorado by targeting new fleet customers in regional Australia as well as traditional Colorado buyers.

“Colorado’s incredible load-carrying and pulling power combined with its tough styling, powerful diesel engine line-up and spacious cabin, will enable us to tap into crucial new markets in mining, construction and farming,” Elsworth said.

“Colorado’s key safety features – which are standard on every model from the value-packed DX to the LTZ hero – also give us a competitive edge in these critical markets while meeting the needs of private LCV customers.”

Note: Colorado is yet to be tested by ANCAP

Performance and Fuel Economy

Two new high-tech Duramax in-line four-cylinder turbo diesel engines are central to Colorado’s hardworking reputation.

Available in 2.8 litre and 2.5 litre displacements, both engines are designed to achieve a balance of load-carrying performance and fuel economy.

The new 2.8 litre – when paired with the optional 6-speed automatic transmission – produces 10 per cent more power and 40 per cent more torque than the outgoing 3.0 litre diesel powertrain it replaces.

It also returns a competitive 7.8 litres per 100 kilometres and 218 grams of CO2 per kilometre in mid-range LX 4x2 Crew Cab Pick Up form with Holden’s 5-speed manual transmission.

The entry-level DX 2.5 litre (4x2 only) returns fuel economy of 7.9 litres per 100 kilometres and 212 grams of CO2, while Holden’s top-of-the-range LTZ 4x4 Crew Cab Pick Up with six-speed automatic transmission achieves 9.1 litres per 100 kilometres and 243 grams of CO2.

Peak torque is delivered at low rpm for maximum driveability with the 2.8 litre diesel achieving an impressive 470 Nm of torque when paired with the 6-speed automatic transmission.

Towing and Payload

Colorado’s powerful engine performance has enabled Holden to offer class-leading towing capacity of 3.5 tonnes across the 2.8 litre diesel range, while the 2.5 litre DX 4x2 range achieves a 3.0 tonne towing capacity.

The Colorado’s cargo-carrying ability is further enhanced with a one tonne payload standard on every model in the range, regardless of powertrain or body style. Some models have a payload of up to 1.4 tonne.

The Holden Colorado has across-the-range standard fitment of a comprehensive range of high-technology active and passive safety features.

  • Styling

The Colorado exterior and interior design were developed at GM’s design studio in Brazil, where the team was challenged with creating a clean sheet design that would appeal to a vast bandwidth of customers in multiple markets, including Australia.

The team was also challenged to create a design that worked consistently across 26 Colorado packaging combinations.

Feedback from design clinics held across the globe including Brazil, Thailand and Australia helped the team develop a final theme featuring wedged horizontal line work to complement Colorado’s overall tough, robust proportions.

The finished exterior design has a strong personality and carefully balances muscular styling with finer sculpted highlights which sweep through Colorado’s roofline, doors and fenders.

Quality details in the LTZ projector headlamps and LED tail lights lift the design into show car territory and lend elegance to the overall design.

Inside, Colorado is a blend of intuitive functionality and comfort. A dual cockpit design was adopted to create an impression of spaciousness, with numerous practical and well-placed storage options throughout.

Colour and trim designers, including Holden’s Kirsty Lindsay, developed an attractive and hard-wearing interior trim combination designed to withstand the most extreme rigours placed on a working vehicle.

Holden will offer seven exterior colour choices:

    Colorado 4x2

  • Black Sapphire – metallic black

  • Summit White – solid white

  • Nitrate – classic silver metallic

  • Royal Grey – metallic grey

  • Colorado 4x4
